Hello everyone, I’m having a problem with ChatGPT’s voice mode on Firefox. ChatGPT’s voice cuts out after 30 seconds, and the chat stops working. I can’t hear it anymore, and it can’t hear me either. What should I do? Thank you.

I’d first try a few basic checks:
- make sure Firefox has microphone permission for ChatGPT
- refresh the page or start a new chat/session
- log out and back in
- test in another browser, such as Chrome or Edge, to see if it is Firefox-specific
- if possible, test the ChatGPT desktop/mobile app as well
OpenAI’s Voice Mode FAQ also mentions that voice on web may require browser microphone permission:

If it only happens in Firefox after those checks, it may be a browser-specific bug. If it happens across browsers/apps, I’d contact OpenAI Support and include browser version, OS, approximate time and any screenshots or screen recording.
Hey @fred06100! This does seem odd. I’d try the steps @LarisaHaster mentioned first so we can narrow down whether this is Firefox-specific.
Start by checking that Firefox has microphone permission for ChatGPT, then refresh the page or start a new voice session. If it still drops after ~30 seconds, try logging out and back in, then test the same flow in Chrome or Edge. Testing the desktop/mobile app would also help compare.
If it only happens in Firefox, it may be browser-specific. If it happens everywhere, please reach out to support@openai.com with your OS, Firefox version, approximate time it happened, and a screen recording if possible. If you already contacted support, share the case ID here and I can take a look.

Thank you for your responses. Yes, this seems to happen in Firefox but not in other browsers. It works fine on Chrome and on my smartphone app. Actually, on Firefox, I start voice mode, ask my question, ChatGPT answers me, and the conversation suddenly stops after about thirty seconds. But rarely, it doesn’t do that. It’s really strange. And I have to close voice mode and then restart it for it to work again in voice mode, 30 seconds. It works on my PC and on my Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, which also runs Firefox. How is it that Firefox isn’t compatible with ChatGPT in this mode? It’s crazy! OpenAI is at the cutting edge of AI but doesn’t support a perfect voice mode with Firefox? It’s really infuriating.
I can reproduce this issue both on my Firefox on Mac and Firefox on Fedora. It does not happen with Chrome in either system. The factor is indeed Firefox, and it indeed drops after 30s.
