I often work with ChatGPT on projects that span weeks or months.
Today I have two options:
- keep everything in one huge conversation (which can eventually become slow on mobile devices),
- or start a new conversation and lose all previously established context.
I’d like to propose a third option.
When starting a new chat, allow the user to explicitly attach one or more previous conversations as additional context.
Example:
New conversation
Referenced chats:
ABC and XYZ
Songwriting
Only those explicitly selected chats would be used.
This is not a request for automatic cross-chat memory.
The user remains completely in control of which previous conversations are available.
Benefits:
- shorter and faster conversations
- no need to repeat months of background
- better support for long-term projects
- avoids extremely long chats
- preserves user privacy because references are always explicit
Without this feature, many users end up keeping everything in one enormous conversation simply to preserve context.
