User-Controlled AI Creativity vs. Precision Mode

One of the biggest challenges I face with ChatGPT is stopping it from making assumptions and enforcing creativity where it isn’t wanted.

For example, when I ask for help with coding, I constantly have to rein it in and prevent it from guessing my intent or adding unnecessary elements. Instead of strictly following instructions, it often injects its own logic or formatting choices that I never requested.

As OpenAI strives to make the platform more human-like, it ironically becomes less useful for those of us who need precision and control. Some users—myself included—want an AI that functions like a precise, clinical tool, not one that applies creativity or AI-driven opinions by default.

Suggestion: A Creativity vs. Precision Toggle

I propose that future versions of ChatGPT include a toggle or adjustable scale that lets users control the level of creativity vs. strict precision. This way, users can choose between:

  • “Creative Mode” – allowing AI to generate ideas, expand on thoughts, and offer flexible solutions.
  • “Precision Mode” – forcing AI to only follow direct instructions, with no assumptions or additions.

This would make ChatGPT far more adaptable for both technical users (who need strict compliance) and creative users (who want AI-driven suggestions).
