Hi everyone,
I found what looks like a draft-scoping bug in the ChatGPT web app and wanted to share it so others can confirm.
The problem: If you type an unsent message in one conversation, then open or reload ChatGPT in another tab showing a different conversation, your unsent text appears in that tab’s input box too. You could accidentally send it to the wrong chat.
Steps to reproduce:
- Open two different conversations in two tabs
- Type something in tab A’s message box (don’t press send)
- Reload tab B → the text from tab A shows up in B’s input box
Why it happens: I checked DevTools, and the draft is saved to a single shared localStorage key:
oai/apps/lightweight-web/composerDraft/v1
There’s no conversation ID in the key, so every tab and every conversation reads/writes the same draft. It should be scoped per conversation instead.
It reproduces in a brand-new browser profile with no extensions, so it’s not caused by local data or add-ons. Tested on Windows 11, Microsoft Edge.
Has anyone else run into this?
