Had the same issue of not being able to upload any file on GPT5 (although on a paid plan). Switched to GPT4.O and worked!

I’m a new subscriber to plan and this uploading of the file issue still persist. How long will it take to resolve it? Does anyone know about the fixture date or update any thing about it?

Just adding my experience in case it works for others. I was using the free model, uploaded 3 docs, got blocked on the 4th doc. I upgraded my account to plus but the file upload was still grayed out. After reading some of the other messages here, I toggled the “Legacy Models → GPT-4o” on which allowed me to add additional files. You can then toggle back to GPT-5 by selecting the “Auto” option.

Same error here. Also with new chats. As of today. Fix is highly required.

Bug confirmed. The recorded solution does not work (maybe it did back then…). Note that I had no issue with uploading files to a project earlier this week…

fyi, I tried from 2 different computers and I could not upload file to my project on either…. Although the phone app worked, so this is my work around until the bug is fixed.

I’m a plus plan user, getting this error message when attempting to upload a file into a project: “error uploading file … An error occurred while uploading this file. Please try again.”
It occurs on both ios apple mobile device and Microsoft Windows laptop. Have tried emptying caches, closing and re-opening program / app, checking for update (none), and restarting devices, as well as multiple attempts. Was able to upload successfully earlier today. Am certain that my file type and size is correct / within acceptable parameters. I have not reached max file limit.
Edit: ALSO, any attempt to *remove* files also encounters a similar error message, and I ALSO receive an error when attempting to create a new project.
Edit: AND I can also report now that another user in my building is experiencing the exact same issues. That means it is not a problem isolated to my devices or connection.
…. No solution or work-around found yet. Pls help and ESCALATE.

Same issue here. Since Sep 18, 2025 at around 21:30 (local time), I haven’t been able to upload any file type in my ChatGPT Projects. Tried both browser (Windows 11 Pro) and the Windows app. I also logged out, cleared cache and all browsing data, but the issue persists.

The issue persists and has actually worsened. On Sept 18 around 21:30 (local time), I reported that I was unable to upload files to Projects (at that time I was still able to create projects).
As of today, Sept 20, about 2 hours ago, project creation also stopped working. When I try to create or update a project, I get the error “Error creating or updating the project.”
I’ve tested this on both the Windows app and the browser (same account). I also logged out and cleared cache/data with no success.
Could you please confirm if this is part of the same ongoing incident, and if there’s any ETA or status update?

I’m also experiencing this problem from my account. I’ve tried on android and on MacOs but I can’t either remove or files to an existing project, even tough I’m not at 20 files already in the project.
Also the function to create a projet isn’t workings well, it seems that I’m unable to create even a basic project at this moment.
Any new about this technical problem ?

This has been happening for the last 3 days… (start-~Sept 18 2025)
Existing Project Files (even Titles/color/emojis) cannot be changed, except can be deleted.
Cannot upload documents either.. Starts to load but never completes.
This is on multiple devices/browsers. Cache/cookies deleted. Incognito Browser checked. Logged out of all devices.
Def backend issue… I see they are aware and working on it.

I was able to upload files (xlsx) using the Android browser (chrome) version of the site. The Android app file-upload is still greyed out. I hope that works for you.
Hi. I have recently upgraded from free to ChatGPT GO. However, when I am trying to upload a file, its showing mew the message: “Add file is unavailable”, thereby defeating the whole purpose of me me upgrading from free to GO version. Can someone please guide me as to how to avoid this issue?

For me a ton of excuses: it is an android problem. It is a throttling problem. It needs to be a laptop. After having over 600 plus files sent to my cell, it is not my cell.
I al fed up.
In working the laptop fix, the app would not open. It was a webview2 problem.
Three novels published and three apps pending, I will try spending about $30 to create my own app to eliminate file problems and throttling. That is because chatGPT cannot send me a corrected file to fix the broken one that does nothing when played on Godot
