Description:
In text-based voice playback, quotation marks are sometimes read aloud as “open quote” and “close quote.” This does not happen during real-time voice conversations. The quotation marks should remain visible in the text but should not be verbalized by TTS.
Trigger condition (confirmed by testing multiple messages):
The bug occurs when the quoted text is formatted as a blockquote (rendered with a faint vertical bar on the left in the UI). Quoted sentences in a regular paragraph do not trigger the bug.
Example trigger text:
The original message contains this line as a blockquote:
“Something you created stayed with me.”
(In the chat UI it appears as: [faint vertical bar] + the quoted sentence above.)
Steps to reproduce:
- Have ChatGPT generate a response where a quoted sentence is formatted as a blockquote.
- Play it back via TTS (text-based voice playback).
- The TTS reads “open quote” and “close quote” aloud.
- The same quoted sentence in a regular paragraph is read normally.
Note: It seems related to how the blockquote markup is passed to the TTS system, rather than the assistant intentionally reading the marks.
