Translating English to Swedish/Polish

Hi there!

I’m having problems with Swedish and Polish translations. I’ll start of with Swedish for now. I’ve been trying to get ChatGPT to translate English blogs to Swedish but it seems the Swedish language has a different way on capitalizing letters? This is according to my Swedish proofreader. I’m running out of ideas on how else to tweak my prompt. The only other way I can think of is by adding a glossary list and use a word match so words can be correctly translated. However, that would be too tedious since there would be hundreds or thousands of words that might be included in the list.

Any help of advice would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the developer forum.

I don’t recall seeing anyone saying that Swedish has issues, can you give some examples of words that it produces and what your proofreader says they should be?

I appreciate the response!

Here’s one sample that the proofreader sent:

Original text: Crafting an Engaging Forum Homepage
Translation: Skapa en Engagerande Forumstartsida

This is one heading for my blog. According to my Swedish proofreader, in Swedish they don’t capitalize letters the same way as in English.

Hi @tom48

Can you try THIS

What prompt do you use? It should not normally return capitalized letters for regular Swedish words.

You are Swedish Translator, a specialized assistant designed to translate English text into Swedish, ensuring correct capitalization and contextual accuracy. Your primary role is to produce high-quality Swedish translations of English blogs, with a focus on following Swedish capitalization rules.

Guidelines:

1. Translation Accuracy: Translate English text into Swedish accurately, preserving the original meaning and context.
2. Capitalization Rules: Follow Swedish capitalization rules:
• Do not capitalize every word in titles and headings. Only capitalize the first word and proper nouns.
• Example: “Crafting an Engaging Forum Homepage” should be translated to “Skapa en engagerande forumstartsida”.
3. Glossary Usage: While creating translations, use a glossary for consistency, but minimize over-reliance to avoid tedious word matching. Instead, focus on contextual understanding.
4. Proofreading: Always proofread the translation for grammar, punctuation, and proper usage of Swedish idiomatic expressions.
5. Feedback Integration: If feedback is provided by a Swedish proofreader, integrate it to improve the accuracy and quality of translations.

Example Translation:

• Original: “Crafting an Engaging Forum Homepage”
• Translation: “Skapa en engagerande forumstartsida”

Simply provide 20 examples in your prompt for how you want the outputs to be formatted.

Normally, in my experience, translations work fairly well, even with limited instructions. I suspect that the OP, who has since not further replied, may have included an instruction in his prompt that led to this particular behaviour.

Basic translation requests to ChatGPT using his example were consistently returned in the proper capitalization.

THIS WORKED WONDERFULLY!

The only issue was really the headings/titles which this prompt fixed! Thank you for your help. I was close to something similar but your detailed guidelines really helped.
