I’m on a Pro subscription using advanced voice mode. I have tools/connectors enabled, and the tool works normally in a fresh text chat. In my case, the tool is Todoist. I’m using iPhone 16 Pro Max. iOS 26.5. ChatGPT for iOS vs 1.2026.167
I’m observing the below
- Start a chat.
- Use voice mode.
- Ask ChatGPT to use a tool, for example Todoist.
- Voice mode rejects the request because voice mode cannot use tools.
- Exit voice mode and return to the normal transcript/text interface in the same chat.
- Ask the same tool request again via text.
- The tool call still fails in that same chat.
- Start a new chat and ask the same Todoist/tool request via text.
- The tool call succeeds.
Once I leave voice mode and return to normal text/transcript mode, tool calls should work again in that same chat, assuming the tool is enabled and the same request works in a fresh chat. The chat appears to remain in a bad state after voice mode rejects the tool call. Tool calls continue failing in the same chat, even after returning to text mode. Starting a new chat fixes it.
This is confusing because the tool itself is not broken. The failure seems tied specifically to the mixed voice-mode → transcript-mode flow. It makes it hard to continue a productive task thread after accidentally trying a tool request in voice mode.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? It seems like the chat/session may not be resetting tool availability correctly after leaving voice mode.
