The new super-dark ChatGPT UI is a nightmare for astigmatism

Unfortunately, the OLED mode adblocker workaround stopped working today.

The new extremely high contrast ChatGPT dark mode is literally painful to look at. I got astigmatism corrected with glasses, but that correction is imperfect. The 100% white text of 100% dark background makes it extremely eye straining to look at the ChatGPT page.

Below is side by side comparison how the super-dark vs normal dark mode looks with astigmatism:

I have no idea who in their right mind thought #000000 background with #FFFFFF font is even remotely acceptable in any end user facing application.

This is just embarrassing for almost $1 trillion dollar company.

On top of that, even without any visual impairment… the pitch black UI is just very dark, depressing, like staring into the abyss. It gives me this anxious feeling of rushing to quickly do what I need to do and get out of that website back into a sunlight.

Same issue here—pure black OLED + high-contrast white is noticeably more fatiguing for long reading sessions.
A neutral gray dark mode (lower contrast than #000000/#FFFFFF) would greatly improve readability.
A simple theme option (OLED / Gray / Light) would solve this cleanly without removing current choices.
