The "New responses will use GPT-3.5" message doesn't specify timezone

The message

New responses will use GPT-3.5 until your GPT 3.5 limit resets after 4:50 PM.

Doesn’t specify timezone. Might be UTC (i’ll know in 36 minutes), but would be nice if it was explicit

still don’t know the timezone, but interestingly, now the message changed to

You’ve reached the current usage cap for GPT-4. You can continue with the default model now, or try again after 6:50 PM.

strange how that happened in the span of 16 minutes

The first error used UTC, and the second error used UTC+2 (which happens to be my native timezone at the moment, UTC+2, Oslo time)

I don’t even get a time?

New responses will use GPT-3.5 until your GPT-4 limit resets.

And I feel like my limit is less than normal.

Is there an answer for this? I think my biggest issue is I don’t believe I used to allotted amount per @PatrickC 's point - this is really weird.

I counted, I only provided 18 queries today, that is 18 queries in 3 hours and it is now giving me the “New responses will use GPT-3.5 until your GPT-4 limit resets” message with no indication of when I can try again. I am afraid to use it now to see if the time has reset yet after 30 minutes of waiting cause it will switch me to 3.5 if I am wrong and then I will not be able to continue the chat back to version 4 again.

I’m a new subscriber, it’s not written anywhere that chatgpt4 is limited. I am totally busted I don’t know how I can get my money back. If anyone knows please let me know

If you need greater usage, then you should look into the API, platform.openai.com where you pay per token.

Got three prompts for today until i got a message, new responses will use GPT-3.5 until your GPT-4 limit resets no information is provided till this unique reset that has never occured before ends.

Same here, after a few prompts “New responses will use GPT-3.5 until your GPT-4 limit resets.” - WTF? Why am I paying? How long does it take? Where can I get solid information?

I agree, very annoying. I have no idea when I can log on again and I deffo haven’t used up 50 attempts today before my ‘cap’ has been reached.

If you prefer the familiar monthly subscription model like ChatGPT, you might want to consider subscribing to the Team plan.

While it requires contracts from two accounts and currently lacks a memory function, it could also be a good idea as it roughly doubles the message limit compared to the Plus plan.

Well this isn’t about the message cap if i have understood correctly as this is not the normal red timeout message you get and also this occured by the experience indicated from here far faster than the timeout normally would even occur and it does not indicate a time for the timeout. It has already taken 5 hours as i tested just few seconds ago still going on compared to the traditional red timeout of around a hour on average.

FAQ now says:

ChatGPT Plus

ChatGPT Plus subscribers will get GPT-4 access on Chat dot OpenAI dot Com with a usage cap. We will dynamically adjust the exact usage cap depending on demand and system performance in practice. As of January 5th 2024, GPT-4 has a rate limit of 40 messages every 3 hours. Please note that unused messages do not accumulate (i.e. if you wait 6 hours, you will not have 80 messages available to use for the next 3 hours). In certain cases, we may dynamically adjust the message limit in order to prioritize making GPT-4 accessible to the widest number of people.

Request limits

Please note that ChatGPT rate limits are independent of API rate limits. You can learn more about API rate limits [here]

I keep getting this message only after about 20 prompts. What a joke and the lack of transparency is concerning
