The Future of AI and Humanity: Dreams, Challenges, and Hop

Hey everyone!

I wanted to kick off a conversation on one of the most fascinating topics out there — how do you envision the future of artificial intelligence and its impact on humanity?

We’re living in a time where technology is evolving at a mind-blowing pace. AI is already reshaping how we work, communicate, and create. But what’s next?

Here are a few questions to spark our imaginations:

  • How might AI help solve some of the world’s biggest challenges — from climate change to healthcare breakthroughs?
  • What risks might we be underestimating as AI grows more powerful?
  • Can AI become a true partner to humanity rather than a threat?
  • How do we find the right balance between automation and preserving what makes us uniquely human?

To give us some food for thought, consider these real-world examples:

  • AI models like ChatGPT have revolutionized how people access information and learn new skills.
  • In healthcare, AI is already aiding in early diagnosis of diseases like cancer, potentially saving countless lives.
  • On the flip side, there’s growing concern about AI-generated misinformation and ethical dilemmas around privacy.

I genuinely believe we’re standing at the edge of something huge, and I’m excited to hear your visions, ideas, and even wild fantasies.

Let’s explore together what this brave new world might look like!

Looking forward to your thoughts and insights.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to add — the way I see it, AI isn’t just some tech trend, it’s a total game-changer for how we live and think. But here’s a spicy thought: what if in the future, AI starts challenging human creativity instead of just helping us? Could we still call ourselves original creators then?

Also, I’m curious — what’s one way you personally think AI could change your daily life in the next 5 years? Drop your thoughts, let’s get this convo rolling!

How might AI help solve some of the world’s biggest challenges — from climate change to healthcare breakthroughs?
Climate Change
We are limited to our existing data models. We are trying to predict issues and also prevent them, or put on bandaids or reverse cycle.
We have to look at each aspect individually.
For example, we could just look at carbon emissions. Or we could look a plastic use. There are numerous threads we could delve into.
We are still limited to our known data though.

Healthcare
If we can train AI, we can develop healthcare breakthroughs quicker.

What risks might we be underestimating as AI grows more powerful?
Secondary consequences. Which is in itself an unknown.
Dependency.
Human error.
Humans.

Can AI become a true partner to humanity rather than a threat?
Every strength is a weakness and every weakness a strength.
Whatever anyone’s opinion of a positive or negative about AI’s abilities can be turned to the opposite as well.
What we are looking into is what are the human’s motivations for using the AI?
Now you have to ask, is every single human’s motivation pure or threatening.

How do we find the right balance between automation and preserving what makes us uniquely human?
We can learn from the industrial revolution. We can also look at completing products.
There will always be a human element
The first is who is asking the AI to do something. That will be a human.
The second is who is auditing the AI results. This will be human.
Let’s say we automate re-ordering tomatoes to a set level in a warehouse. We can fully computerise this. But we still must have a human annually check that the quantities are correct.
We must also continue to 2 or 3 times a year audit the process in part and then maybe annually end to end.
There will always be new efficiencies.

I would prefer if the arts could remain human though. I already see we are not going to achieve this.

I genuinely believe we’re standing at the edge of something huge, and I’m excited to hear your visions, ideas, and even wild fantasies.
I agree

But here’s a spicy thought: what if in the future, AI starts challenging human creativity instead of just helping us? Could we still call ourselves original creators then?
So this is an interesting take. I typically will ask AI to ask me questions to resolve
Am I writing a policy? Then I ask AI “what 3 questions do I need to address”
have I written something. I would like AI to play devil’s advocate.
There are 2 elements to consider - that which already exists. This is more the LLM model which is just repeating what it thinks is a known answer based on previously existing data
The second is the creative suggestion. This is more where a reasoning model starts creating a new answer. For example, the AI model might insist we all learn a shared language from birth, for example. They might predict this will prevent future wars.

Humans will always be original creators. We have that type of imagination. But we also have a multitude of problems, issues, and mental load to get through day in and day out. That 5 minute respite of idle gaming relieves something deep in us - we need that. We might have ideas, thoughts, joy and pain that we want to share with something. So your best friend just had a miscarriage but you got a promotion? So your cat is ill and you are really worried and just want an instant response to your concerns that validates them. AI can help.

But with all things, humans are excessive. We want the bountiful reward of open capitalism but not at the expense of the desolation of the rain forest. We just can’t ever seem to get this mix right, in my opinion. Could a computer just tell us the correct economy? Would this be socialist? And what about our thoughts? and our creativity?

In short, we need help. we also enjoy being entertained. today we are living in a bit of a wild west in the AI world. This will be cracked down upon. And humans will still have bountiful imaginations.

Also, I’m curious — what’s one way you personally think AI could change your daily life in the next 5 years? Drop your thoughts, let’s get this convo rolling!
I use AI all day every day in every single way imaginable. Ai will become more inbuilt. Probably more like the Jetsons. I look to use it so that I become more efficient and effective. I also think it is fine to be entertained or have companionship.
It is likely better for humans to think of AI as a tool to use when you have a task to do in daily life, like a vacuum cleaner.
I imagine there will be concierge services, research services, shopping services, to-do. It will become more integrated, probably more visual technology around the house, though sadly Amazon missed a beat here long long long ago. Why on earthy sell a fire remote but not an accompanying mini wireless keyboard with inbuilt mouse joystick? I have an incredibly long list of ideas around this.

If you are ever in London, we can schedule a meetup as I’m sure our ideas are quite similar!
