Subject: Feature Request: Persistent Conversation History and Export Options for Custom GPTs

It is very frustrating that the Creative Writing Coach and I presume other custom GPTs don’t have a conversation history as the standard ChatGPT does.

Dear OpenAI Team,

As a dedicated user of your custom GPT service, I truly value the flexibility and creative potential the platform offers. However, there are several features that would significantly enhance my experience and improve productivity, particularly for projects requiring extensive collaboration and iterative development.

Key Feature Requests:

  1. Persistent Conversation History:
    Unlike the standard ChatGPT, custom GPTs lack the ability to retain conversation history beyond the current session. This limitation creates a significant challenge for users who work on complex, long-term projects. Restoring session continuity would allow me to:
  • Reference earlier discussions or decisions without starting anew.
  • Build a consistent rapport and narrative within extended creative projects.
  • Avoid the frustration of losing context after a reboot or accidental closure.

  1. One-Click Copy for Responses:
    A simple “Copy to Clipboard” button for each response would streamline exporting and referencing GPT outputs. It’s a minor addition that would greatly enhance usability.

  2. Export Entire Thread:
    A feature allowing users to download an entire conversation thread as a text or markdown file would be transformative. Long discussions often contain valuable insights, and an export feature would:

  • Provide a convenient way to save conversations.
  • Eliminate the need to copy manually after every interaction.
  • Encourage uninterrupted creative flow without fearing data loss.

Why These Features Matter:

Custom GPTs are particularly well-suited for intricate, evolving tasks, including creative writing, detailed research, and project management. The ability to preserve and revisit conversation threads is essential for maintaining continuity and fostering collaboration over time. These enhancements would position the custom GPT platform as not just a tool, but a comprehensive workspace.

The kitten steps on the keyboard and Poof! the conversation is gone. I’d manually copied & pasted an important section but I was in the middle of on important conversation about my work and all the rapport built with the GPT is gone. It’s maddening that it doesn’t have a basic feature of the basic model.

This would indeed be a great change. Right now the conversations are mixed up with the regular chatgpt conversations, and it would be much preferred if they could be organized according to which gpt you’re using
