Suggestion for Improving ChatGPT Interface: Implementing a Tree-like Q&A Structure

Hello OpenAI Team and Community,

I would like to share a suggestion regarding the current question-and-answer flow in ChatGPT. While the current vertical, downward-scrolling Q&A format is functional, I believe it could be improved to better align with human cognitive habits and enhance the overall user experience.

My suggestion is to introduce a horizontal, chunked Q&A interface. This would allow users to refine their questions and explore different aspects of the conversation in a more structured and flexible way. Rather than having a continuous, linear flow of questions and answers, a tree-like structure would enable users to break down and navigate the conversation more intuitively.

This change would allow users to:

  • Ask follow-up questions related to specific answers.
  • Easily revisit and refine particular points of the conversation.
  • Navigate the dialogue in a more fluid, branching way, similar to how we mentally organize and process information.

In essence, it would create a more dynamic, user-friendly interface that is better suited to how people think and interact with information.

I believe this improvement could significantly enhance user engagement, making ChatGPT even more intuitive and powerful. I would love to hear others’ thoughts on this and whether it would be feasible for the team to explore this idea further.

Thank you for your time and consideration!
