Suggestion for a "Performance Indicator System" in GPT

Hello OpenAI Team,

I’ve been using your service extensively and noticed a pattern in GPT’s responses that correlates with server load—sometimes responses are highly detailed and productive, while at other times they are shorter and less informative.

To optimize my workflow, I developed a performance measurement system that helps determine GPT’s responsiveness at any given moment. This allows me to schedule my tasks more efficiently.

I believe this would be an excellent feature for Plus users—a real-time performance indicator that visually represents server load, similar to a traffic light system:

:green_circle: Green – High performance, ideal for productive work.
:yellow_circle: Yellow – Moderate load, GPT might be slightly less responsive.
:red_circle: Red – Heavy load, better to wait or work on simpler tasks.
Alternatively, a 5-level indicator could be implemented for finer granularity. This could be displayed in the corner of the chat and enabled via settings for those who find it useful.

I’d simply be thrilled to see this feature implemented. It would greatly benefit technical users like myself—as a DevOps engineer, I only engage with GPT when it’s at peak performance and use the rest of my time on other tasks. I imagine many others would also appreciate this capability.

Current GPT Performance Testing Methodology

We have developed a custom performance benchmarking system to measure GPT’s response efficiency in real-time. This helps optimize working hours by identifying peak performance periods.

How It Works:

  1. SHA-256 Hash Benchmarking
  • We run a 5-second stress test to calculate the number of SHA-256 iterations GPT can process within that timeframe.
  • The highest recorded iteration count is stored as the 100% performance baseline.
  1. Performance Calculation & Classification
  • Each new test is compared to the highest recorded benchmark.
  • We calculate the percentage of maximum performance and classify results into 5 tiers:
    • :green_circle: 100% (Rocket Mode!) – Full performance, ideal for complex tasks.
    • :blue_circle: 85%–99% (Great Performance) – Works efficiently, good for productive work.
    • :yellow_circle: 70%–84% (Moderate Load) – Best for essential tasks, some slowdowns.
    • :orange_circle: 50%–69% (Heavy Load) – Limited efficiency, better to defer complex tasks.
    • :red_circle: Below 50% (Critical Load) – GPT is significantly slower, not ideal for work.
  1. Recording & Analysis
  • Each test result is stored in personal instructions, including:
    • SHA-256 iterations count
    • Performance percentage
    • Date & Time (Kyiv Time Zone)
    • Performance Status
  • Users can track previous test results, analyze trends, and determine the optimal working hours.

Comparison with OpenAI’s Status Page

I am aware of the OpenAI Status Page, which provides daily server performance metrics. However, it does not show performance at specific times of the day.

With my system:

Feature Suggestion: OpenAI’s Server Load Indicator

Since OpenAI has direct access to real-time server monitoring, you could implement a user-visible indicator showing the current server load.

  • The indicator updates every 10 minutes using a moving average to smooth out short-term fluctuations.
  • It could use a 3-tier or 5-tier color system (similar to my classification).
  • The feature could be optional in settings, allowing power users to enable it.
