We are unable to create or run any Assistants that use the File Search tool in the Playground.
Symptoms:
• “Error streaming run: Failed to fetch”
• CORS errors in console
• 401 Unauthorized (intermittent)
• Only happens when a file is attached
• Assistant creation fails immediately if file_search is enabled
• Reproducible across multiple browsers, machines, and accounts
• No network restrictions on our side
Important:
• OpenAI support is telling us it might be an “insufficient credits” issue — this is not the case.
• Our account has sufficient credits and other API calls work perfectly.
• Even a single small text file (2 KB) causes the error.
• The issue was not present before — it started suddenly and now is consistently happening
Request:
Please confirm this is an OpenAI-side issue with Assistants + File Search and provide an ETA or workaround.
We cannot create a single assistant with File Search at the moment. This is blocking production work.
