Streamlining the ChatGPT response by focusing on the raised issue

User and ChatGPT discuss the already provided JS block.

User request:

Can we clear the date field once the past date selection error popup is acknowledged?

ChatGPT response:

Rewriting the complete adjusted JS block consisting of 100 lines of code.

Desired ChatGPT response example:

Change the following code in your JS block.

<script>
// code start...
if (isPastDate(dateInput.value)) {
	alert('You cannot select a past date for booking.');
	dateInput.value = ''; // Clear the date field
	return;
}
// code continues...
function isPastDate(selectedDate) {
	const today = new Date();
	today.setHours(0, 0, 0, 0); // Set the time to midnight
	const date = new Date(selectedDate);
	if (date < today) {
		return true;
	}
	return false;
}
// rest of code
</script>

It would save time and resource load.

Hi!

What’s really required is the model to properly follow instructions:

  • reply only with the code that changes
    vs.
  • reply with the whole code

If this doesn’t work reinforce your prompt to tell the model exactly what to do. Leaving stuff out is often easier than the other way around.

Hope this helps!
