Strange memories formed instead of actual ones

I’ve been having trouble getting ChatGPT to form memories. It says it updates the memories, but when I check, it either hasn’t created any, or creates utterly strange memories that have nothing to do with me or our conversations.

Here are the memories in question:

Memory:
Is currently 28 years old.

Comment:
I am 26.

Memory:
Is currently reading ‘The Brothers Karamazov’ by Fyodor Dostoevsky.

Comment:
I have never read Dostoevsky or talked about him or his work with ChatGPT.

Memory:
Has been reflecting on their relationship with their mother, noting that it has been a source of pain and confusion. They feel that their mother has a tendency to project her own insecurities onto them, which has led to a complicated dynamic.

Comment:
I’ve never talked about my mother with ChatGPT. Moreover, I can’t relate to this memory.

The memory function works rarely, but I have not been able to identify any consistent factors. I have tried the android app, the website, and every model on either.

It has also made numerous duplicates of memories instead of forming new ones.

I’ve noticed very similar behavior. When I go to the manage memories screen in the iOS app, it’s a cluttered, chaotic mess. I can’t make sense of it so it’s no wonder ChatGPT can, either. It saves completely arbitrary snippets of conversations that aren’t worth remembering, and, though I’ve only seen it occasionally, completely Fabricated memories like you mentioned. It seems like when it gets full it just quietly stops working, even though it still continues to say memory updated during our conversations. At least in the past, it used to warn you that memory is full. It doesn’t seem to do that anymore. I wish it was smarter about this, Being more judicious about the types of memories it saves and doing its own memory management so that it can continue to store new memories without us having to delete them or wipe out all the memories entirely. Feature that needs a lot of work still
