Thank you for implementing the feature, Storage Management, that’s available here: chatgpt dot com / library (cannot post a plain link as they are not allowed).
However, I’ve noticed that it only lists the uploaded and generated files for the past five days exactly.
For my account, at least, it is showing only a tenth of my files. No older files are shown.
Hi @sanity,
Based on the docs, older files should remain in Library until they are manually deleted, except for files uploaded in Temporary Chat.
The release notes say Storage Management is available from Settings → Storage and also state:
Files remain in your Library until you delete them. Files uploaded in Temporary Chat aren’t saved to Library.
https://help.openai.com/en/articles/6825453-chatgpt-release-notes
The File storage / Library article also says files are saved to your account until you delete them manually:
https://help.openai.com/en/articles/20001052-file-storage-and-library-in-chatgpt
So if Storage Management / Library only shows files from the past five days exactly, that sounds inconsistent with the documented behavior, unless the missing files were uploaded in Temporary Chat or already deleted.
If you can reproduce it consistently, this may be something OpenAI Support/staff needs to look at. In that case you can contact them either through Help or email: support@openai.com and open a support ticket.
If you do need to contact them, I think it would probably help to include:
-
plan
-
platform/browser
-
whether the older files were uploaded in normal chats or Temporary Chat
-
whether the older files still appear in the original chats
-
whether they appear in the composer file picker / recent files
-
whether this happens in both Library and Settings → Storage
I’m not sure what you mean.
My library simply does not list older files. The oldest files that I see are dated Monday this week, i.e. five days ago.
The export feature correctly exports all the files. The library view doesn’t have them.
“Support” AFAIK exists for support, this is a bug report.
I only listed those checks to narrow down whether this was related to Temporary Chat, deletion, rollout/platform differences or specifically a Library UI issue.
I also checked my own Library and I don’t have the same issue, so it may not reproduce on every account.
The reason I mentioned Support/staff is that this may need account-side investigation, especially if it is reproducible only on some accounts.
If staff replies here on the forum, they often ask for a support case ID so they can investigate the specific account/session issue. I can’t guarantee that will happen here, of course, but that is usually the route for account-specific bugs.
Your export detail is useful though: if the export contains the older files, but Library / Storage Management only shows the last five days, then the files still seem to exist account-side and the issue looks more like Library not surfacing them correctly.
