“Share up to here” + delegated actions to ChatGPT on explicit request

Hallo
I have two proposals, written for me by ChatGPT "him"self based on two requests from me. I’ve read it and I confirm it reflects my ideas:

Part 1: Selective and Intentional Conversation Sharing

Currently, ChatGPT conversations are private and do not contribute to shared knowledge, even when they contain non-sensitive, broadly useful solutions.

I propose a feature called “Share up to here”, allowing users to mark a portion of the conversation as:

  • :white_check_mark: Non-private
  • :free_button: Shareable with other users
  • :bookmark: Taggable and categorizable

Users could click a button at any point in the conversation to publish the selected part of the chat, making it:

  • Accessible in a public knowledge base (e.g., help DOT openai DOT com or community DOT openai DOT com)
  • Or visible to other users facing similar questions or challenges

Real-world example:

I figured out how to renumber channels on an LG TV model 32LK6200PLA which normally doesn’t allow that. It’s not sensitive info — just trial and error. “Share up to here” would let me publish this workaround for others searching for “LG TV custom channel order”.

Part 2: Delegating Simple Actions to ChatGPT When Explicitly Asked

In addition, I suggest enabling ChatGPT to perform certain actions on the user’s behalf when explicitly requested. These could include:

  • Sending feedback or proposals to OpenAI or GitHub
  • Publishing parts of the conversation in a shared knowledge base or public forum
  • Creating structured GitHub issues or posts based on the chat

Examples of allowed user commands:

  • “Submit this suggestion to OpenAI”
  • “Post this workaround to the help forum”
  • “Open a GitHub issue with this summary”

Benefits:

  • Unlocks valuable information otherwise buried in private chats
  • Empowers users to contribute insights with minimal friction
  • Enhances ChatGPT from a passive tool into an active collaborator
  • Maintains full user control — nothing is shared without consent

Thank you for considering this idea! It represents a step toward a more useful, community-driven, and collaborative AI experience.
