Separate Project chats from main history to prevent accidental deletion

Hello, I am using the ChatGPT Projects feature and noticed that chats started inside a project also appear in the main “Recents” sidebar. Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted a chat from the “Recents” list, and it completely deleted the conversation from my Project as well, causing me to lose important data.

I would like to suggest two improvements:

  1. Keep Project chats exclusively inside the designated Project, or at least separate them visually in the sidebar.
  2. Add a safeguard (like a warning or a confirmation popup) stating that deleting the chat from “Recents” will also permanently delete it from the Project.

Thank you for considering this!

Hey @allison.beza90, welcome to the community!

When the same Project chat appears in both Recent and its Project, deleting it from Recents can be mistaken for removing only that sidebar entry.

A visible Project label would make that relationship clearer. A confirmation explaining that the conversation will also be permanently removed from its Project would give users a chance to cancel before losing important work.

I cannot promise when or whether these changes will be added, but I will pass the feedback along internally.
