Security Feature - Optional Off by Default Country-Based Access Restrictions for ChatGPT Accounts

Would you use an optional security setting that lets you restrict where your ChatGPT account can be accessed from?

For example:

Allowed countries: USA, Canada, Germany
→ Login from USA: allowed
→ Login from another country: blocked or requires additional verification

Possible options could include:

  • Only allow selected countries
  • Block selected countries
  • Allow trusted devices even while traveling
  • Temporary “Travel Mode”
  • Notify the user when a foreign login is blocked
  • Require passkey/MFA to override the restriction

This would be an additional security layer, not a replacement for MFA or passkeys.

Would you use this feature?

    1. Yes — I would enable it
    1. Maybe — if it had Travel Mode/trusted devices
    1. No — MFA/passkeys are enough for me
    1. No — country/IP restrictions would cause too many problems
