I built an extension just for that, please check out Searchable ChatGPT (also there is FF version).

As an alternative, you can use search feature in mobile app. No idea why OpenAI doesnā€™t add that to web UI.

I am also interested in this feature. Currently, all old conversations are lost and it is very difficult to locate them. I know the mobile version has this feature, but I cannot understand why the desktop version does not have it.

Aside from Search functionality in the desktop version of ChatGPT, it would be great to allow labeling or tagging conversations.

Yes chatgpt needs to add this feature to desktops. switching from desktop to IOS or Android makes no sense. Please developers work on this to improve the platform.

We really need to be able to search chat history in the webapp version of ChatGPT. I have it built-in with my macOS app and my Android app and I really miss it when using the webapp (which I need too, for now, as 4o with canvas is only available on the web; not in the apps).

For now, I use the ā€œDilterBilterā€ extension on Firefox (also available on Chrome). Itā€™s free. ā€œSearchable ChatGPTā€, an extension that has been advertised in this thread, is not ($10 lifetime to get more than 3 results, at time of writing this).

Thanks!

Itā€™s here! I think itā€™s been introduced concurrently to ChatGPT search, announced on October 31, 2024.

I can now search my history with ā€œSearch chatsā€ (āŒ˜K on Mac), both from the webapp and the desktop app (Mac). And itā€™s full-text search: it searches not only in the chat titles but also in the content.

Note: āŒ˜K shortcut seems to work only in the webapp, not in the desktop app. Also with the webapp you get a snippet of where the search terms appear in the content, but when clicking it, it takes you to the end of the relevant chat but not at the position where the search terms appear in the chat. You still need to āŒ˜F and search again in the content itself. And no snippet with the desktop app.

Launched a new topic: ā€œSearch chats improvementsā€ (sorry, canā€™t link to it, not allowed).

I was going to try this out today on Chrome on Windows, and ctrl+k puts the focus in the chrome address bar instead.

Does anyone have a link to the bug or any workaround?
