Hello, I was looking for a way to separate out my conversations from the non applicable parts where the research topic began and then naturally rolled into a conversation.
I actually think it’s a strong feature idea. ![]()
Split Conversation
Allow users to select any message in a chat and create a new conversation starting from that point. The original conversation remains unchanged, and the new conversation contains the selected message and everything after it.
Or even expand it a bit:
-
Split here: Create a new chat from this message onward. -
Move selected messages: Select a range of messages and move them into a new chat. -
Prune conversation: Remove selected messages from a copy of the chat while leaving the original intact. -
Keep both versions: Never destroy the original unless the user chooses to.
It would be useful for so many situations:
-
A medical question turns into a funny conversation.
-
A coding question becomes a discussion about career advice.
-
Vacation planning morphs into restaurant recommendations.
-
A brainstorming session branches into multiple unrelated projects.
Instead of one giant, winding conversation, users could “fork” it into clean, focused threads.
