Save Temporary Chat” option is missing from ChatGPT Web

Environment

  • Surface: Web / Windows
  • Browser or app version: Google Chrome 154.0.0.0
  • Affected feature and model, if relevant: Temporary Chat — “Save Temporary Chat” option

Bug

The option to save a Temporary Chat to regular chat history has disappeared.

Previously, while using Temporary Chat on the web, there was an option to save the temporary conversation if I decided I wanted to keep it. That option is no longer available.

I am definitely in Temporary Chat — the URL contains ?temporary-chat=true. However, when I open the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner, the only option displayed is “Plugins.”

I expected to see the option to save/keep the Temporary Chat and convert it into a regular chat in my history.

OpenAI’s current documentation still states that Temporary Chats can be saved to chat history, so I am unsure whether this is a UI regression or an undocumented change.

Reproduction

  1. Open ChatGPT Web.
  2. Start a Temporary Chat.
  3. Have a conversation.
  4. Open the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
  5. Look for the option to save the Temporary Chat.
  6. The Save option is missing; only “Plugins” appears.

Diagnostics

Exact error or screenshot:
There is no error message. Screenshot attached showing the missing Save option.

When it happened (with timezone) and how often:
October 1, 2026, around 7:30 AM EDT (UTC-4). The Save option is currently consistently missing.

This is driving me crazy. I checked a friend’s (free) account and it has the save button. It’s missing from my (plus) account.

Update: It looks like this has been fixed. The “Save Temporary Chat” option is showing up again for me on ChatGPT Web.
