Dear OpenAI team,
I’d like to suggest a feature for the ChatGPT web interface that would greatly improve usability during extended or ongoing conversations.
Currently, if a chat is left open and used for a long time, the conversation grows very large. This can cause significant performance issues in most browsers – and eventually, the chat won’t accept any new messages.
Feature suggestion
Please consider adding a “rolling chat” option, where the oldest parts of the conversation are automatically trimmed as the conversation continues – either after a user-defined limit or a sensible default. This would let users chat indefinitely without worrying about browser slowdowns or technical interruptions, and without needing to manually start a new chat and lose context.
This would be particularly useful during long projects and world-building/storytelling!
Thanks for your consideration! I think this would make ChatGPT much more robust and enjoyable for power users!
Best regards,
Glenn Haugen
