Cool, this is reminding me a lot of Carcassonne (board game) - Wikipedia especially with the castle design.
Thanks. Getting a lot of requests for “solo RPG play”… gotta get MVP out, though, but keeping that in mind for the future…
This person has that but without AI (w/context)… or any AI at all, I think… (Same hand-painted tiles, too, as there’s not a TON on the market lol…)
And this guys’ web skills are about 20 levels above mine! Heh. I’m on a discord with him and other tool builders, though, and said I’m not trying to copy him as if I could…(Watch where he zooms in on a hex and a city appears then he zooms in on the city! All in one map whereas I have a pop-up with a second screen/map… Mine has a region area, though, which is a bit different…
He doesn’t do AI either which might be my differentiator for now, I hope… worldbuilder with AI builtin that has auto-context… once that’s done it could be fairly easily turned into an endless game of some sorts, I think… maybe tied with the roguelike project… I dunno…
I was spending so much time badly designing the overload map icons, I went ahead and paid a human artist for the hand-painted tiles for region maps… So many little details to work out, but I want to get the LLM stuff started next now that the framework (however buggy) is built…
Appreciate you taking the time to check it out as I tinker away…
Some progress… on multiple fronts… backend a bit sturdier now and starting to dip into LLM generations…
I’m going to look at proper WFC for the city map generation. Using meh constraints now and it’s just meh all around… trying not to get too bogged down in any one area… really starting to come together, though, I think…
Need to get something released soon, tho!
My lord it is getting quite big. I love the higher fidelity map. Especially how the dungeon & villages work together. The maps also look pretty fun to play. For the record in some mountainous places there ARE people who actually live inside of the mountains
It’s a great meme in these areas like "Could you imagine meeting someone at the club and they say “Wanna go home”, and they point at their house at the top of a mountain so, not unrealistic!
Crazy progress man. I remember what feels like eons ago seeing you thinking about creating the dungeons using GPT to map it out using text symbols.
Incredible. I admire the persistence and progress
Thanks! Haha, yeah, I’ve got 24 terrain types baked in right now… to give the LLM a bit more to play with when generating…
Using so many different algos now too… trying not to concentrate on any one thing too much… battlemaps would be a nice addition, though…
Hah, yeah, seems like forever ago. Still tying in GenAI with proven proc-gen processes lol… I think this overland stuff could tie to the roguelike, though… still have an idea for a GenAI MMORPG of some sorts… but on a small 2d scale at first…
Persistence or stupidity! lol
Seriously, though, appreciate it… as “not a real (good) coder” I’m happy with my progress so far… though I did make a BAD decision a couple weeks back … popping that modal for region map. Apparently, in Phaser you can only assign ONE canvas… so all my other canvas maps are just HTML5 … have plans for second edition already growing, but want to get something out …
How’s your games project going? I’ll pop in the Lounge this weekend…
A little more progress… a LOT more thought about getting context for generations right… starting to come together, though. Now that framework is more solid, the LLM work will kick into high-gear… I’m putting thought into the best way to gather context automatically… from a LOT of data…
Popped gpt-4o-mini in and working great so far… Might do some tests later to compare vs 3.5-turbo and 4o … for subjective “quality” measures…
Looking good, though!
Quick initial thoughts on gpt-4o-mini
GPT-4o-mini: The Hex-tra Boost Our Worldbuilding Tool Needed (Tabletop RPG Dev Log 18) (youtube.com)
slow and steady progress… hopefully more updates soon…
dang, this project has come so far Paul. Can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with when Sora drops and you implement something from it in it. Keep going man, you are going to go far!
This cries for a “Video” or at least something like a real time “power point” to play on a large TV next to the Dungeon Master.
The world builder would be slick on a Tablet (or laptop), I bet. Not too phone friendly yet…
Or did you mean the Notebook LLM show? I fed it the thread here and some other sources…
But yeah, I need to tie all this stuff together and make it profitable somehow soon lol…
I mean a Dungeon Master is basically given a presentation on the world. And it can be rendered dynamically based on the “audience” reactions…
I think that could be used in multiple industries.
Imagine giving a presentation on a product, someone in the audience asks a question and the slides to answer that question would be rendered in real time.
Doesn’t really take a lot of effort when you have a good RAG already e.g. for an Information System or a website sales support chat in the company. In general there is the same problem. Bringing die Data together in a form that it can be used in all the AI tools.
You’re thinking too small.
A droid DM that comes to your house and runs the game then cleans up and leaves? Hah.
Seriously, though, the auto-DM is being tried by quite a few. The rules (numbers) are still hard for the LLM too, but that’s getting better.
I like your idea, though. You feed it X and get a presenter/presentation machine…
I mean even a short intro video like in Lord of the Rings with an AI generated theme melody and a voice whispering what has happened on a greater scheme. Explaining a bit about the world…
Just to get some ambience…
Then it fades out to a screensaver.
And then maybe in a fight mode or when entering a dungeon it can be activated and then pictures of a cave troll being cut in half or parry an attack depending on what the DM puts into a form…
Even with more music in the background… it doesn’t have to cover the whole game… but can be used in scenes…
Or “show me the map”… or “you found something - it looks like this… what do you want to do?”
I wouldn’t do the whole thing - I mean it should still be something in individual fantasy - how they imagine the scene… but a little…
Really appreciate your work on that. It’s way more than just the game tools that you build. It gives inspiration for other fields as well.
