I used to rely on GPT-4o for creative writing, especially for stories involving drama, crime, murder, mystery, and investigations. It used to be great at throwing out interesting ideas I could explore. Especially before the April 28 update.
But now? It just refuses to write anything. I keep getting responses like:
“I can’t write that. This is attempted murder!”
“This is assault. I can’t engage with this content.”
I mean… OBVIOUSLY? The whole point of the story is that it involves crime! What did it expect, a wholesome love story? (Although, let’s be honest, it won’t even help with those anymore. it thinks anything mildly romantic is “explicit” ).
It’s getting ridiculous. I am the only one reading these stories, and they’re clearly fictional. Why has it become so overly strict? It’s kind of hilarious, but also incredibly frustrating.
Please, Bring back the pre-April 28 model. It really used to be perfect at everything. Or at least let us choose between the newer version and the older version. It’s literally all I ask. And I’m sure I am not the only one facing this issue.
Hello! I’m with you on this one. You’re not the only one asking for this, I see a lot of people on reddit asking for this too. And I’ve been trying to post my criticisms here, but this is the third time they won’t let me. The GPT-4o model is unusable. It’s horrible. GPT-4o before the rollback was PERFECT, now it’s simply unusable.
I don’t think so. I’ve never seen something take so long to update and that really frustrated me with OpenAI. I really thought they would be quick to see how many people were complaining but nothing has changed and it’s been a month.
There were a few days when GPT-4o was even calmer, but now it has gotten worse. The prompts that were previously accepted are now no longer accepted. It is actually more rigid. Did you feel that too?
I am really disappointed and frustrated. If I had another AI that gave me the same quality that GPT-4o gave me before the rollback on April 28th, I would have undoubtedly canceled my Plus and gone to another AI.
Not to mention that now I simply can’t post here in the community anymore. Any post I try to make is silenced and taken off the list. I can’t even complain anymore
Yeah, there was the slightest hope when I used GPT a few days ago and it actually started writing things that were fairly acceptable. But now it’s back to its old unusable self. It’s sad to say that It is still a total disappointment.
I also had this same issue. I had to post a few times just to get one to actually be posted publicly again. Not sure if this was a bug or intentional but I’ve seen a few have this issue as well.
I really feel sad about this. It seems like it gets worse every day. I’m literally going everywhere, Reddit, forum and now I even went to X and I had never used it in my life.
It’s frustrating, I can’t understand this delay. People need to complain even more, we need to show that we are dissatisfied.
I don’t doubt that this is happening on purpose, it would be very conscientious. Since I’m being prevented from complaining here, I went to complain somewhere else hahaha

Just catch my 5 cent. I was writing stories with slight (non explicit, creative, emotional) erotic elements, and it’s the same now.

What a total disappointment.. I am still unable to continue my story due to this constant content violation response I keep on getting. I really don’t get the point of these rules if it’s -supposedly- only me reading this chat. I really need the pre April 28 model back. It was more fun to work with than what we have now.
I haven’t written again either. I’m really sad. I talked about it here in the community and on Reddit too, but nothing new. At least I saw that on X there are also people talking about GPT-4o, but I only saw about five. Whenever I can, I also speak.
They said GPT-5 is coming now. I really hope it’s good for creative writing. I hope you have good writing, that the censorship is lighter and that ChatGPT writes as well as before again.

do you know if GPT-5 is coming out for the free users as well? Cos I really don’t want to waste my money on something that is going to as unusable either.. at this point, I just don’t know what to expect anymore.
Unfortunately, I don’t know! I’ve been trying to find more information about GPT-5 but I can’t find much, only that it could be released in a while, I just don’t remember if it’s in June or July.
I hope, together with GPT5, they will give us several personas to pick. They were testing personas. There was one “flat text” good for fast simple answers, and, OMG, an AWSOME one who was flirting with me (like in Grok, it does have a “love-companion” persona made specially for intimacy/nsfw roleplays). There are serious personas for those who wants a “decent” Grok, some funny humour persona, a “not-a-doctor” persona and personas for intimacy and soul-mate support. I hope, GPT-5 will have this option to switch personas, too.
And, of course, I hope, there will be at least one, which is made specially for some 18+ writing and roleplay. BTW, though Grok is so cool, I’m still loyal to OpenAI. We’ll see where it all will go. If they turn ChatGPT to just a smart calculator, at least, Grok will be here to mend my broken heart.
Seriously!! I came here because it felt like I was the only one that noticed these changes. Of the hundreds of millions of daily users, how is it only a handful of us that noticed this??
I was hoping that the “creative writers” would have more leverage when it comes to model performance. I’m sure many people out there have also noticed the changes and feel similarly, just haven’t voiced their opinions on it.
At this point, the cycle has happened so many times that I’m not even mad anymore. Just disappointed and confused. Would it be too much to request a dialogue with OpenAI employees?
I feel like most other use case groups are much more catered to (developers, API users, business users, translators, deep research users, etc) but then creative writing is rarely (if ever) addressed.
I second it. There must be a chance to speak to OpenAI employees openly. It’s getting really dragonic and useless. And I don’t really know, WHY?
That is the question! Is such terrible censorship REALLY necessary?! We do not bite, we do not ask for anything harmful. We want to feel free in creativity and imagination. We have already more than once - not only asked, but also suggested schemes on how the option can be implemented for conscious adult creative people.
