+1 still waiting for native linux release
+1 still waiting for native linux release
+1 still waiting for linux desktop and we can bundle it into the AUR
I strongly agree with this request. Please provide this ability as soon as possible.
LinuX usr ++
need a native linux support…
Even Z.ai manages to support Linux users. It’s disappointing that some companies can leave an entire community waiting for months without any updates.
Happy user of Web app and Codex CLI but we need access to the best tools and interfaces. Especially now with 5.6 being released we need the super app as much as any windows or mac user. I’m sure you can spare a few staff to help devs using Linux
Pleaaaaaase jus t do it guys! I guess you can or chat may be ![]()
With as much effort as you guys are putting into this app, Linux users deserve it too!
Please, please, PLEEEEEEEEASE develop a Linux desktop app. I don’t even have Windows installed on my laptops or desktops, and I’d love to use OpenAI Work to streamline potential workflows. With such a strong and able coding model, it’s ridiculous that AI companies haven’t developed an app for Linux users yet!
OMG, this is way overdue!
I fully agree, and would compete with the Claude Desktop that was just released.
Hello, I just logged in to say this to OpenAI devs. Even Discord has official Flatpak on Flathub (i am not allowed to include link) which is also Electron app. Because its Flatpak, you don’t have to worry about testing your app in various distros. You just ship your Flatpak to Flathub and it works on every distro.
Even if you just ship AppImage to say for example “we officially only support Ubuntu and ignore everything else”, community can just make it Flatpak instantly to publish Flathub unofficially. Its not maintainance burden. Its already Electron app. I am pretty sure there are other Plus users like me who also want this to happen.
If you do marketing heavily about developing with ChatGPT, you have to care about Linux.
This would be great. I prefer working on Debian than any other system!
Thank you for posting this!
Please Linux app, need it, thank you
OpenAI is actively losing money because of this, i am not sure their market research team is doing a good job. I thought about switching from my 200$ plan in cursor to codex, but because i am on linux, this is completely out of question, as i’ll switch a full featured app/ide to a cli/plugin codex, which is a massive downgrade. So, you lost another high tier subscriber because of this negligence.
Doomer Dario has a native linux desktop and it’s really nice..too bad his models are a joke. You’ve already got the better models with 5.6 Show him you want the linux users.
This! Codex CLI and IDE plugins work great on Linux, it’s how I develop, so the models are very competent USING Linux, because it’s so powerful for development and tech, but won’t have the desktop app for it? What are ya’ll doing OpenAI? ![]()
I am a paying ChatGPT Plus user and use Pop!_OS 24.04 as my primary operating system.
Linux users are being left behind while macOS and Windows receive the complete ChatGPT desktop experience, including deeper integration with local files, applications, development tools, and Codex.
Using ChatGPT through the browser is not equivalent to having the official desktop application. Linux is widely used by developers, technical professionals, and many of the users who could benefit most from Codex.
Please release an official Linux version, preferably supporting Ubuntu-based distributions such as Pop!_OS, and provide a public roadmap or estimated availability.
Linux users should not continue paying the same subscription price while receiving fewer desktop features.
