The current version/branch UI removes fast in-place navigation between message edits, which makes iterative writing and comparison much slower. I rely on quickly switching between edited versions inside the same chat to refine prompts and scenes, and the new branch/list flow breaks that workflow. Please consider adding a lightweight inline version navigator (e.g. “< 1/5 >” controls) with an optional “branch from this version” button for deeper exploration.
This new UI makes it incredibly difficult to access old versions to view in the same chat, and it is unnecessary given each response has the option to branch into a new chat.
I preferred the previous message editing system that showed version counters (e.g. 1/3, 2/3, 3/3) and allowed me to switch between versions directly within the same chat using arrows.
The new interface only shows a list of versions with a “Branch from here” option. This makes it much harder to compare edits and continue working in the same conversation. I frequently edit prompts and use version history to review previous iterations without creating separate chats.
Please consider restoring the ability to navigate between message versions directly within a conversation, or provide an option to switch between the old version-navigation workflow and the new branching workflow.
The old system was much more useful for iterative writing and prompt development.
