Posting this for others facing the same issue.
With the Assistants API, I kept getting a “server error” whenever an assistant used the file_search tool, with no details on the cause.
The issue was a low max_prompt_tokens limit in the run API call, causing errors when the assistant retrieved results from the vector store.
While obvious in hindsight, the error logs don’t identify the issue, so there’s opportunity for confusion.
