Proposal to Improve User Experience in OpenAI’s Free Plan
Subject: Enhancing Transparency in Free Usage Limits to Prevent Unexpected Interruptions
Proposed by: Alaa Eldin Gamal
Introduction:
As an active user of OpenAI, I truly appreciate the platform’s capabilities in data analysis, sorting, comparisons, and other computational tasks. However, I have encountered a recurring issue that affects many users: sessions being unexpectedly interrupted due to exceeding the free usage limit, leading to incomplete tasks and lost progress.
Current Problem:
Users start processing data without knowing whether they can complete the task within the free plan.
Midway through, they are surprised by a session termination due to reaching the free limit, resulting in incomplete work.
This creates frustration and negatively impacts the overall user experience.
Proposed Solution:
Before starting a large data processing task, the system should perform a preliminary check to determine whether the task can be fully completed within the free usage limit.
The user should then receive one of the following notifications:
“Your task can be fully completed within the free plan.”
“You can complete 70% of your task for free, but upgrading will be required to finish it.”
“This task cannot be fully processed in the free plan. Would you like to split it into smaller batches?”
Provide an automatic task-splitting option to ensure progress is not lost due to session interruptions.
Benefits of This Improvement:
Prevents unexpected disruptions for users.
Enhances transparency and trust in the system.
Encourages users to upgrade willingly rather than out of frustration.
Conclusion:
I believe implementing this proposal will significantly enhance the user experience and improve the platform’s reputation for fairness and reliability. I appreciate your time and consideration.
Thank you!
