Proposal: Integrated Code Repository Service for ChatGPT

Dear OpenAI Team,

I’m a developer and regular user of ChatGPT, and I wanted to share an idea to enhance its value to developers while creating a potential revenue stream for OpenAI.

Many developers rely on ChatGPT for coding assistance but face challenges like latency, copy-paste errors, and inefficiencies in handling generated code. To address these issues, I propose an integrated code repository service Open AI / ChatGPT maintains, that allows CHatGPT to directly update code files for users to save, version, and directly import/export code files into their projects.

This feature could include IDE integration, private and shared repositories, and automated testing, all available via a subscription model. It would provide immense value to developers while encouraging user retention and generating revenue for OpenAI.

This is not a new idea. I’ve worked with no-code IDE and DB developers who provide this service and allow developers to upload code to their websites. No reason this could not be integrated into the IDE platform, making it faster, more reliable, and easier to code using ChatGPT. I’d love to share more details or answer any questions. Please let me know if this idea resonates with your team.

Best regards,
David Richardson
