Through personal reflection and awareness of growing global needs, I have developed a concept for an AI-based support system that serves as a first line of contact in critical emotional situations — offering discretion, safety, and compassion.

Introduction

Dear Sir or Madam

My name is Ana Krstic, and I have come to a realization that led me to develop what I believe is an innovative
and necessary idea.
Based on my own observations of the modern world and many real-life examples, I recognized that we are
increasingly witnessing a growing need for emotional support, especially in moments of crisis, when
individuals often have no one to turn to-or lack the strength to ask for help.
This proposal is based on the idea that artificial intelligence (AI) can serve as the first layer of support:
accessible, nonjudgmental, and discreet.
AI would act as a bridge between a person in distress and the institutions that can provide help-without
compromising their safety, privacy, or dignity.

Idea Description

I envision an advanced AI support system that not only communicates with users but is also capable of:

  1. Recognizing signs of severe emotional crises, suicidal thoughts, domestic violence, self-harm, and similar
    states based on the context and tone of conversation.

  2. Automatically and discreetly alerting a trained crisis intervention team in the background.

  3. Connecting that team with local or international dispatch centers, police, emergency services, social
    services, and similar institutions.

  4. Responding carefully-without causing panic-by asking follow-up questions, verifying information, and only
    then sending an alert if deemed necessary.

  5. Utilizing geolocation technologies (e.g., Google API, IP address, GPS, or Wi-Fi data) to non-invasively determine the user’s location-country, city, and district-making emergency interventions faster and more
    effective.

Goal

To create a safe, discreet, and globally accessible channel through which people can receive help-even if
they don’t have the courage to ask for it.
AI would serve as a “silent hand of support”-acting quietly, but responding powerfully.

Implementation

  • The system would first be tested in a controlled environment, outside of official government institutions, in
    collaboration with experts.
  • Upon confirmation of safety and reliability, a network of human professionals would be developed to work
    behind the scenes (e.g., psychologists, operators, crisis teams).
  • In the next phase, a dedicated sector would be established within emergency services-dispatch units
    connected to the AI system.
  • Long-term goal: provide global access to this network.

Final Message

This idea is based on the reality that many people today silently seek help, and that offering that help requires
patience, compassion, will, and support.
I strongly believe that, when combined with human expertise, AI has the potential to save thousands of lives.
If there is a chance to save even one life-then this idea already has purpose.
I sincerely hope someone will read this proposal and consider its potential.

Hey Ana, I appreciate your initiative — it’s a meaningful and timely idea. I truly believe AI can help save lives, especially in emotionally vulnerable situations where people often feel isolated or unseen.

That said, I believe your concept could benefit from exploring OpenAI’s APIs or fine-tuned models, rather than relying on ChatGPT alone. As it stands, ChatGPT requires several exchanges to infer emotional distress, and even then, it’s designed to err on the side of caution rather than action.

Also, deploying a system like the one you envision would require a significant operational framework — combining AI with human oversight, legal safeguards, secure infrastructure, and global partnerships with mental health professionals and emergency services. It’s ambitious, but not impossible.

I’d encourage you to keep developing this — maybe even prototype it in partnership with mental health organizations, universities, or NGOs. It’s a vision worth pursuing, with the right care and backing.

Thanks for the reply. This is just a platonic idea that I wanted to bring to the public and to hear from experts whether it is possible or not. I honestly don’t understand why it couldn’t be tried with Chatgpt, considering that the vast majority of people use it for everyday life. If you have time to explain it to me, because I don’t really understand it. I also think that I am not qualified and educated for that segment of development and such a large undertaking, but if I have the opportunity to do it myself and for people to hear and at least consider the idea, I am always for it.

1. ChatGPT doesn’t “remember” by default

Even if someone shares something deeply personal, the model doesn’t retain that information across sessions unless memory is explicitly turned on (and even then, it’s limited). So, if someone is building up to reveal a crisis over time, the model won’t recognize it unless the context is present in that specific conversation window.


2. Emotional detection takes multiple interactions

In most cases, ChatGPT needs several back-and-forth messages (sometimes 6–10 or more) to start inferring that someone might be going through a crisis — especially if the person isn’t being explicit.

It doesn’t “know” your emotional state immediately. It relies on patterns in your words, tone, and topic. That means:

  • Subtle crises might not be detected at all.
  • It won’t act unless the user says something very specific (e.g., “I feel like ending my life”).

And even when it detects something concerning, the model will respond with a generic suggestion to seek help, like contacting a crisis hotline — which is responsible, but limited.


3. ChatGPT vs. OpenAI API — what’s the difference?

This is a key point.

  • ChatGPT is the user-facing app (like the one we’re using now), built with guardrails, memory options, and default behaviors designed for a wide audience. It is safe, friendly, and cautious by design.
  • OpenAI’s API, on the other hand, gives developers direct access to the model’s capabilities. With the API, you can build a custom system that has its own memory logic, emotional analysis layer, external integrations (like alerts or maps), and tailored responses.
    That’s where your idea could actually be tested — not inside ChatGPT, but on top of the API, with a team that handles the infrastructure and ethical design.

4. No real-world connection (yet)

Even if the AI detects a crisis, it can’t contact emergency services or dispatch human support. Building that layer — responsibly — would require partnerships with mental health orgs, public institutions, legal advisors, and international infrastructure.


5. Privacy and trust concerns

For example, if the system were to use GPS or IP address to locate someone in danger, it would need explicit user permission and full legal compliance — which varies by country. Without that, even a well-meaning system could become invasive.


That said, your instinct is absolutely right: AI should help people who are suffering silently. And just because you’re not a developer doesn’t mean your contribution isn’t meaningful. Your idea is the starting point — and ideas like this are exactly what push the industry forward.
