Hi, my name is Stephanie , and I am a cybersecurity analyst. I am currently in my second year of pursuing a career in cybersecurity, and it has been an amazing journey so far. Every day, I’m learning something new, and ChatGPT has been an indispensable tool in my success story. Whether it’s simplifying complex concepts, encouraging me, helping me schedule tasks, drafting content, assisting with scriptwriting, log analysis, decoding, and more, ChatGPT has played a huge role in my development.
That being said, as someone who deeply understands the importance of data security, I recently had an experience that got me thinking. Out of curiosity, I asked ChatGPT what it knew about me from our past conversations over the last several months. The response was impressive, but it also triggered my security instincts. I immediately considered the possibility of someone else gaining access to my account and retrieving personal or sensitive information that could be misused—whether for impersonation or as a breach of confidentiality, especially if company information was discussed.
What concerned me most was how easily past details could be accessed without additional security checks, like Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) or security questions, particularly when retrieving sensitive information. I know that educating users on security awareness is crucial, but we also need built-in safeguards for those who may not always follow best practices.
I suggested to ChatGPT to verify my identity before releasing such information, especially since I rarely ask for past details, and most of my interactions focus on immediate questions. While ChatGPT couldn’t implement that automatically, it did offer a factory reset option for data or the ability to set reminders, which I found impressive.
With this experience in mind, I’d like to offer a suggestion: implement an additional layer of security, such as an automatic 30-day data deletion option or a prompt reminding users to manage their data. Furthermore, having a built-in verification process (like MFA) before releasing historical or sensitive information would greatly enhance confidentiality.
If this is something already being worked on, I’d love to contribute in any way I can. I’m eager to learn and would be excited to volunteer my time to help improve the tool. Thank you for considering this feedback!
