I have a feature idea that I believe could make ChatGPT significantly more valuable for long-term projects.

### The problem

Today, I can work with ChatGPT on something important—a book, business, research project, learning goal, etc.—and then life happens. I stop for a few weeks.

ChatGPT remembers the project, but generally waits for **me** to come back and initiate the next conversation.

### What if ChatGPT could proactively beckon me?

When starting a Project, give the user an optional setting:

**“Keep me moving on this project.”**

The user could choose:

- Remind me after **14 days of inactivity**
- Follow up after another **7 days**
- Maximum **2 reminders**
- Then **stop if I don’t respond**

The crucial part is that the reminder should understand the project’s actual context.

Instead of:

> “You haven’t worked on your project recently.”

It could say:

> **“We haven’t continued your book for 14 days. We stopped at Chapter 7 while developing the Builder’s Summary. Ready to forge ahead?”**

Now ChatGPT isn’t merely setting a reminder.

**It’s maintaining continuity in a collaboration.**

### The “let go” principle

The AI should also know when to stop.

**User-authorized inactivity period → First beckoning → Second beckoning → No response → Let go.**

“Let go” doesn’t mean deleting or forgetting the project.

It simply means:

**Stop initiating until the user returns.**

This keeps proactive AI helpful without becoming intrusive.

### Why I think this matters

The future competition between AI systems may not only be about who gives the best answer.

It may be about **who becomes the best long-term collaborator.**

Memory lets AI remember.

Projects let AI organize.

Proactive initiative could allow AI to **help us keep moving.**

My simple principle is:

> **Don’t just make ChatGPT the AI I ask questions. Make ChatGPT the AI that helps me finish what I started.**

I would love to see **Project Continuity / Keep Me Moving** become an optional ChatGPT capability.

@marenmudiaga, thanks for laying this out so clearly. The idea of an optional “Keep me moving” setting that uses the actual Project context, follows up after user-defined inactivity, and then knows when to stop is a useful distinction from a standard reminder.

We’re sending this to the team for logging as a feature request around proactive, context-aware Project continuity. We appreciate and value your feedback. While we can’t promise implementation or provide a timeline, we’re grateful you shared it with us.

We’re closing this topic while keeping it visible for reference.
