Product Idea: ChatGPT Opportunities – Helping Users Turn Skills Into Economic Opportunities

I’ve been thinking about a product opportunity that emerged from my own experience using ChatGPT extensively as a software engineer, founder and product builder.

AI is increasingly helping people learn faster, write software, research, design products and accomplish work that previously required much larger teams. But there is another side to this transformation: many professionals are simultaneously worried about how AI will affect their employment and earning opportunities.

That led me to a question:

If ChatGPT can, with a user’s permission, understand their skills, projects, experience, goals and demonstrated capabilities over time, could it also help them discover economic opportunities where those capabilities are valuable?

I call the concept ChatGPT Opportunities.

Rather than being another conventional job board, it could help consenting users discover:

• Full-time and remote jobs
• Freelance projects
• Contract opportunities
• Consulting assignments
• Eventually, startup or collaboration opportunities

The important difference would be capability-based matching rather than primarily keyword-based matching.

For example, instead of simply recommending a “Laravel Developer” vacancy, ChatGPT might explain:

91% match
Strong evidence: SaaS development, backend engineering, API integrations and production deployment.
Gap: Kubernetes experience requested but not demonstrated.
Recommendation: Apply.

It could then help the user prepare a targeted resume, select relevant portfolio evidence and prepare for the interview, while keeping the user in control of what information is used or shared.

I believe there is also a broader trust opportunity here:

AI should not only help people do work. It should also help people find opportunities to do valuable work.

Privacy and consent would need to be foundational. Private conversations should never automatically become employer-visible information, and users should explicitly control what is considered for matching and what can be shared externally.

I’ve put together a short 2-page product proposal covering the problem, JTBD, proposed experience, employer side, privacy model, MVP and success metrics:

ChatGPT Opportunities – 2-page proposal

I’d be interested in feedback from the community, particularly around whether others experience the same gap between AI increasing what they are capable of doing and finding economic opportunities where those capabilities are valued.
