Problem with verification on platform

I need help with verification.
I needed verification to use gpt-image-2 through the API.
I tried verification, but it failed, even though I followed the instructions exactly. I don’t know why, maybe the photo wasn’t high enough quality.
But now I don’t see a retry button. I don’t want to create a new account because my budget is already allocated to my current account, and there’s no guarantee the verification service won’t fail this time.
What can I do? Alternatively, I can send my verification data directly to OpenAI.

Hi,

We can’t look into account issues on the developer forum, please email support@openai.com and let them know your issue.

Thanks!

Thank you, already did, but I also decided to write here in case other users have a similar problem, and the representative of the OpenAI could describe the solution here.

Also maybe better to create a special section for problems like this.

Since you already have been contacting OpenAI support, they are the ones that can help you in this specific case.

But if you want to read more and maybe see if there’s something that could help you, you can check this topic:Unable to verify organization, in this topic you see several relevant links.

Hope this helps you a bit more.

This is a response from support, it looks strange:

We truly understand how urgent this situation is for you, especially with verification currently blocking your access. We also want to acknowledge your willingness to provide any form of identification, including official documents, to complete this process. That level of responsiveness and effort is fully recognized.

At this time, retries for API Organization Verification are not supported, even if the verification was unsuccessful due to image quality or similar issues. Additionally, manual verification methods (such as document review outside the system) are not available.

We understand how limiting this is, especially when you’re ready to provide the correct documents and move forward immediately. Your willingness to comply and resolve this quickly is clear, and we recognize the impact this is having on your ability to proceed.

Apparently the support service doesn’t have the authority to do something like this, how can this be escalated? (and it’s really unpleasant that support uses LLM for answers even on specific issues)

That support response seems consistent with the current Help Center article for API Organization Verification: failed verification attempts currently do not support retries, and manual document review outside the verification system is not available.

Also this same issue has been solved by @OpenAI_Support in this topic:Requesting Staff Assistance: Identity verification rejected - photographed ID on screen instead of physical ID (Pro plan, need API access).

And I understand that you don’t want create a new organization or a new account (if needed) but as I understand it, it seems to be the only workaround for retry.

Thank you, I’ll try creating accounts until verification is success. It’s somehow not normal for OpenAI to force users to create more accounts. I hope they can at least refund or transfer the money.

Just paid another $5 for a new account and verification failed again :frowning: There’s something seriously wrong with withpersona. It’s not normal that there’s no other way or retry.

Yeah I had the same thing, started another org and was rejected again, I think they bury your name and ID along with the rejection so you can’t re-apply?

Sad.

I don’t think they save this data, withpersona (the verification service) requires a new photo every time, I think something is seriously wrong with withpersona, but the main problem is that OpenAI support doesn’t help, I hope they will at least refund the money for the new account.

When you got your reply from the support, was it from the support AI? If that was the case, I recommend that you ask it to escalate it forward specifically to the API organization verification/account eligibility team and hopefully get this solved for you.

It can be beneficial to include that you already tried again with a new account, paid another $5 and verification failed again.

It was a human agent, looks like that the support service partially uses LLM for responses even if it is called by a human agent, that’s why the response looks like that.

Another related question: What’s the cooldown for resetting the verification feature? The description says something about 90 days, but that’s about something else (about not being able to use a persona for another organization if it’s been approved), and 90 days would be too long. But a day has already passed and the verification feature hasn’t restored. How long does it take, a week? That’s also too long.

I don’t see a published cooldown/reset period for failed API Organization Verification attempts.

The 90-day rule appears to refer specifically to an ID that has already been used to verify another organization, not to a general retry cooldown after a failed attempt.

I understand your frustration. The best hope for you is that, support will either reply here or through email.

I also contacted withpersona support, this is their answer:

Thank you for contacting Persona Support. We are unable to help you, please refer to the organization you are trying to verify with for assistance on this matter. You can contact them at https://help.openai.com/en and support@openai.com

So this is require actions from OpenAI support.
It would be good if an OpenAI representative responded here, and described the algorithm of actions to solve the problem.

A little about how to fix the bug with the missing verification retry for self (yes, the lack of a critical feature is a bug, I’m a developer myself and I hate to admit it, but it’s true):

  • You don’t have to register an account with a new email address; the pattern “base+{some_iterable_id}.gmail.com” works. Support confirmed that this is fine. They also said they won’t transfer successful verification to your main account, but at least it’s something. You can also request a refund from your main account and transfer those funds to the new account yourself later.
  • It’s also important to note that payment after registration is NOT MANDATORY. This is easy to miss, but there is a button to skip and go straight to verification.

I haven’t tried re-verification yet, but I’m waiting for a response from customer support regarding many practical questions, such as whether if the main passport page has an old photo and the second page is newer, it’s better to use the main page or the one with the more recent photo but no name; what if the name is in different languages and may have different transcriptions; or whether I need to shave my beard for selfies (I like my beard, and I’d rather not). Many similar strange questions arise, but there are no strict instructions on this matter.
Each answer is very difficult to extract from customer support. I would be grateful if customer support would respond here on the forum.
