Private Gpt Apps without publishing

I’ve been experimenting with building Apps and have some exciting ideas for integrating them into my workflow. However, I noticed that once Dev Mode is turned off, the Apps are removed and no longer accessible.

Is there a supported way to develop and privately use an App without needing to publish it publicly? I might be missing something here, but I’d love to find a path that allows private usage—especially when the App involves personal MCP servers.

Would really appreciate any clarification or pointers!

Now I have tested the Claude MCP implementation, no public IP, registering MCP servers through $env:AppData\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json, which has disadvantages, doesn’t work in FF/Chrome PWA, but offers a very smooth startup, with MCP running in minutes.

But what is much more important, no DevMode, MCP servers work right away, no /xyz-mcp-tool command needed, Claude just uses the available MCP tools naturally based on the prompt.

I would like to see this in gpt, there is so many cool ideas for how to use this.

You can add MCP connector in Claude directly under “Settings / Connectors”. No need to add any json files. It’s very convenient flow for all users.

Am on free now on Claude, and I dont have there that “Add custom connector” button, but it looks it might support both scenarios, local MCP Server, and even connect to publicly exposed MCP Server (using public IP), well Claude is ahead here.

I met the same problem and have to upgrade my Claude plan.
