Possible Apple Private Relay delivery issue with OpenAI Support and appeal emails

I am creating this topic because this may affect other users who signed up for ChatGPT using “Sign in with Apple” and Apple’s Hide My Email feature.

This is connected to an ongoing account-support case, but the possible email delivery problem appears to be a separate technical issue that may affect more people.

After several support conversations, OpenAI confirmed that I had successfully opened a new case using the Apple Private Relay address linked to my affected ChatGPT account.

Support confirmed that:

  • the new conversation was initiated from the email address linked to the account;
  • it was now considered the correct verified channel for account-specific review;
  • and the case had been escalated to the team that reviews appeals.

The support update told me to monitor my inbox and spam folder for further emails from the review team.

However, I never received that update by email, neither in my inbox nor in my spam folder.

I only discovered it because I manually reopened the support conversation on help.openai.com.

Since discovering the above message, I have sent four follow-up messages over the course of about a week inside the support conversation. My latest message, sent today, was:

Hello,

I am following up again because I still have not received any response by email, in this verified support conversation, or through the forum.

It has now been several days since case 11381688 was escalated to the appeal review team.

Please confirm whether the case is still active and whether any messages have been sent to my Apple Private Relay address since the escalation.

Because of the possible email delivery issue, I currently have no reliable way to know whether I am still waiting or whether a response has failed to reach me.

Best,
Manuel

If you look at the long screenshot of the full support conversation attached at the end of this post, you will notice that there are no replies from anyone at @OpenAI_Support between my messages.

So either my messages inside the support conversation are not reaching anyone for some reason, or the same issue I experienced before (Support simply stopping responding after a certain point) is happening again. :confused:

My Apple Private Relay address is still active, forwarding is enabled, and it points to the correct underlying email address. I have also successfully received other OpenAI emails through this relay address in the past, including previous support emails and recent ChatGPT product emails.

This raises a concern:

Apple Private Relay only forwards messages from senders or domains that have been properly configured by the relevant service provider. Different OpenAI systems, such as product emails, regular support, and the appeal review team, may use different sending domains or email infrastructure.

It therefore seems possible that some OpenAI emails are successfully delivered through the relay while others are not.

As mentioned above, I have already informed Support via the support conversation about this possibility and provided screenshots showing that:

  • the relay address is active;
  • forwarding is enabled;
  • previous OpenAI emails were successfully received;
  • and the latest support update was visible in the Help Center conversation but never arrived by email.

So far, I have received no response anywhere.

My concern is that the appeal review team may already have sent a request or decision that never reached me. I also do not know whether replies can be missing from the Help Center conversation itself, or whether every message sent by Support is guaranteed to appear there.

Has anyone else using Sign in with Apple and Hide My Email recently experienced missing OpenAI Support or appeal emails?

In particular:

  • Have you received recent support or appeal-team emails through an @privaterelay.appleid.com address?
  • Have messages appeared in the Help Center conversation without a corresponding email?
  • Have you discovered that OpenAI had sent something that never reached your forwarded inbox?

I am not claiming that Apple Private Relay is definitely the cause. I am trying to determine whether there is a delivery issue and whether other users may be affected as well.
