Please Implement Proper RTL Support for ChatGPT Desktop and Mobile Apps

Hello, OpenAI team,

Thank you first of all for adding proper right-to-left (RTL) support to the ChatGPT web application. It helped a lot of people use the website more comfortably writing in such languages as Persian, Arabic, Hebrew, and Urdu.

It would be wonderful to have similar RTL support for the ChatGPT desktop and mobile apps as well.

At the moment, users of languages that use RTL direction might still experience some difficulties using the applications, as the RTL language is mixed with English text, numbers, code blocks, hyperlinks, punctuation marks, etc. Some troubles might occur with text alignment, text selection, and moving the cursor.

Suggested changes:

  • Proper RTL text alignment;

  • Proper cursor behavior and text selection;

  • Proper RTL text rendering in case of mixing RTL text with LTR one;

  • RTL/LTR switch option in the chat window.

Implementing proper RTL support in the desktop and mobile apps will definitely help lots of users.

Thank you for your consideration.

Hey @aminba, welcome to the community! Appreciate you for outlining the specific issues so clearly. Consistent RTL support across the desktop and mobile apps would make ChatGPT much easier to use for people writing in Persian, Arabic, Hebrew, Urdu, and other right-to-left languages.

The points you raised around cursor movement, text selection, alignment, and mixed RTL and LTR content are especially important, since those issues can make even basic editing difficult. An optional RTL/LTR switch could also give users more control when working with multilingual text, numbers, links, or code.

I can’t promise or share a timeline for changes like this, but I’ll pass your feedback along internally.
