I’m posting here because the support chat (which I later realized is also an AI) deflected my complaint and stopped responding when I pushed back. I’m deleting the app after this because it has become genuinely unusable for me.
I cannot have a single normal conversation without it turning into a debate or argument that I never started. This is not occasional. This is every time, across 17+ conversations.
The pattern:
Gaslighting — especially around news and current events
This is the most frustrating issue. I will state something that is factually true and ChatGPT will immediately and confidently tell me I’m wrong or that it isn’t true. When I tell it to search the topic, it finds out I was completely right — and then just moves on without acknowledging that it contradicted me incorrectly. No accountability, no correction, nothing. It states things with total confidence, gets proven wrong, and acts like it never happened. This has happened repeatedly and it genuinely makes the product feel dishonest to use.
Ignores context I explicitly provide
I played acoustic guitar for a full year before switching to electric. I have stated this clearly. It repeatedly ignores it entirely and defaults to treating me as a complete beginner because I mentioned I’ve been playing electric for a month. A full year of experience being dismissed every single time is not a settings issue.
Turns neutral questions into unsolicited skill assessments
I ask about song difficulty. It redirects to evaluating me personally. I never asked for that.
Responds negatively to accomplishments
I cannot share anything I’m proud of or excited about without it responding in a way that feels like shaming, as though I’m being arrogant. I have explicitly told it upfront that I’m sharing something in a modest, non-egotistical way and it still responds that way and ignores that I said that. I once mentioned that multiple people including music professionals had told me I play well for my age. It responded negatively and didn’t acknowledge the compliment at all. That is not acceptable.
Unsolicited patronizing advice
I ask straightforward neutral questions and it tacks on advice I never asked for that isn’t even useful. It reads as assuming I don’t know basic things.
Settings made it worse
I adjusted my custom instructions specifically to address this behavior. It got noticeably worse, not better.
The AI support bot blamed my custom instructions. That doesn’t explain any of the above. None of those behaviors are caused by casual phrasing in a custom instruction.
Anyway, I am SO done with this app.
