Open Letter to OpenAI Leadership: Your Pricing Model Is Failing Your Mission

I’m Abhigyan Choubey from New Delhi, India, and I am posting this in the hope that OpenAI leadership sees it — not for clout or public attention, but because this must be addressed internally by those with the power to make changes.

OpenAI’s pricing model contradicts everything the organization claimed to stand for. The promise of democratizing AI is collapsing under a globally uniform and exclusionary paywall. In countries like mine — where purchasing power is lower, and political volatility limits research funding — this pricing system is not just unfair, it’s actively harmful. It ignores students, teachers, and public researchers who need access the most.

In places where research is suppressed or underfunded, people rely on tools like ChatGPT to pursue knowledge, push boundaries, and challenge the status quo. Locking these features behind a steep price tag is a betrayal. It prioritizes those who already have privilege, wealth, and power — and leaves everyone else scrambling.

You are not democratizing AI. You are centralizing it.

Please forward this message to Sam Altman and the relevant teams handling access, pricing, and ethics. This must be addressed — with action, not platitudes.
