This is not as serious as the September 2024 random chats disappearing bug, but it still bothers me. I use ChatGPT to store down ideas from my brain (kinda like I need a “person” to my thoughts with), and losing access to older chats would be like losing access to older thoughts in my brain.
Firstly, on the iOS app, when scrolling down the chat history, the older chats could just randomly refuse to load. And once that happens, it will remain refusing to load. The only thing I could do is to log out, log back in, and hope that by random chance I am able to load in more chats before the “randomly refuse to load” happens.
Secondly, when the app goes in the background (sometimes even just for a short period of time), it could by random chance suddenly decide to restart itself. Usually, when this happens, length of the loaded chat history gets shorter, sometimes much shorter (like only the most recent month).
I remember back in 2023, none of this was an issue. The app wouldn’t randomly restart itself in the background, nor do chats randomly refuse to load. I could have all chats available to me by default. I wish the chat history bar could go back to how it used to be in 2023, or allow us to sort chats into folders.
