Older chats intermittently fail to load in the sidebar

I’m using ChatGPT on the web in Firefox Nightly on Windows.

My chat history sidebar is intermittently failing to load older conversations. I can scroll down for a while, then it tries to load more chats and just stops. Sometimes it will load another batch if I try again later, but then it breaks again.

The conversations themselves are definitely still there because I can find and open them through Search. So this seems to be a sidebar/history-loading issue rather than missing or deleted chats.

I expected the sidebar to keep loading older conversations as I scroll.

This started happening on September 18, 2026, around 10–11 PM CDT, and has been happening repeatedly since then.

Edit: I also tested the mobile and desktop apps. Mobile briefly returned a “Too many requests” error before loading my chats, while the Windows desktop app loads the same history normally. This makes the issue appear related to conversation-history requests on web/mobile rather than missing chats.

This is happening to me as well, on Google Chrome on Windows.

It started happening to me almost immediately after your case, at 10:22pm PT on September 18, 2026, and has also been happening repeatedly for me as well. It seems to be appearing on specific accounts, as this sidebar issue occurred on my Plus account, while my other account (Free) has no problems. I am also still able to access the chats through Search, just like you.

For the chats that are in the sidebar, I can no longer right-click them to open them in a new tab. I am also no longer able to send messages using “Enter,” and I must use “Ctrl+Enter” to send a message.

All of this happened after I deleted a number of chats, and moved a number of chats to different projects to clean up my sidebar. This is very strange behavior indeed, especially as I used to be able to quickly delete many chats no problem without the system bugging out.
