Not able to Generate Anki Cards

I recently discovered that I can generate Anki flashcards using ChatGPT, so I uploaded a few PDF textbooks, hoping it would assist me in creating the cards for my studies. However, it has now been nearly 12 hours since I first requested flashcards for a single chapter, and I have yet to receive the completed cards.

Initially, I was informed the task would take around 2 hours, but the timeline kept extending. The system later mentioned it would be done in 30 minutes, followed by repeated estimates of 10 minutes and 5 minutes, none of which were met. The system also keeps mentioning that the delay in the process was because it was constantly checking that it was ā€œoverchecking and not prioritizing speed.ā€

Iā€™m starting to wonder whether the delay is caused by the size of the PDF file I uploaded or if thereā€™s another issue causing this extended processing time. Could you please clarify the reason for the delay and advise me on what steps I should take to ensure the cards are generated efficiently? I would greatly appreciate any guidance on how to proceed.

Hi @amaira6666
Welcome :people_hugging: to the community!

Itā€™s possible thereā€™s been some hallucination by ChatGPT.

ChatGPT doesnā€™t perform background tasks or process information over extended periods.

All processing happens in real-time during an active session and typically completes in seconds or minutes, depending on the complexity or length of the response.

There is a new ā€˜Tasksā€™ feature, while helpful for scheduling, doesnā€™t work by continuously gathering or processing information. For example, if you set a task like ā€œOn January 20, 2025, search OpenAI blog posts and display the latest news,ā€ it wonā€™t gradually work on this over minutes, hours, or days. Instead, it acts more like a reminder system. When the scheduled time arrives, ChatGPT will execute the task as if you prompted it in real-time and then notify you when itā€™s completed.
