The memory feature got enabled for me today. I turned it off as soon as it started cluttering my chats with “memory updated”. It’s a feature targetting beginners–there are lots of people who won’t understand why it doesn’t remember something they talked about in another chat. But if I want it to remember something I’ll tell it (or use the same chat, or put it in instructions), I don’t want cross-chat pollution.
But now it’s constantly saying “Memory Off” at the top. What’s that for? I know it’s off, I turned it off. The ChatGPT UI is strikingly nice and clean–whoever did the original UI design did a good job. It’s functional, clean and to-the-point. I hope it’ll stay that way, and not randomly clutter the screen reminding me that I’ve turned some random setting off
