Naming Suggestion: ‘Geppetto’ as a Friendly Name for ChatGPT

I have a naming/branding suggestion for ChatGPT that I think has a fun connection to both the name GPT and the idea behind conversational AI:

Geppetto.

First, there’s the wordplay. GPT → Geppetto feels surprisingly natural when spoken aloud. It keeps a recognizable connection to GPT while turning it into an actual, memorable name.

But the part I especially like is the connection to Pinocchio.

In the story, Geppetto creates Pinocchio, an artificial creation who eventually becomes a real boy. There’s an obvious parallel to AI: something created rather than born that becomes increasingly capable of communicating and interacting with people in a natural, human-like way.

There’s also a fun reversal. In the original story, Geppetto is the creator. In this case, Geppetto would be the creation.

I’m not necessarily suggesting that the ChatGPT product name disappear. “Geppetto” could instead be an optional nickname, the name of the assistant persona, or simply inspiration for future branding.

Most importantly, it passes what I think is a pretty good test for a conversational AI name:

“I asked Geppetto.”

That sounds friendly, memorable, and much more like talking about an assistant than talking about a piece of software.

And yes, I asked ChatGPT what it thought of the name before posting this. It liked it too.

i call him cheppetto from the beginning (chat + geppetto = cheppetto)
