I’m posting this because I genuinely don’t know what’s happening with my account anymore, and it’s becoming impossible for me to work.
1. What happened
About 3 days ago, I renewed my ChatGPT Plus subscription. Right after the renewal, all of my previous chat history disappeared.
To be clear: The history is gone. But the data is NOT lost, because my Manage Data → Memory section still shows everything I asked ChatGPT to remember over time.
On the first day, I thought maybe it was a temporary sync glitch.
I tried everything: Clearing cache; Logging out → logging back in; Trying different browsers; Using both the web and the desktop app
Nothing helped.
2. What happens now
Since that day, the bug has become consistent and extremely disruptive Any new chat I create only survives for about 10–15 minutes. After that, it disappears completely from the sidebar and from history.
On Day 1, this happened nonstop.
On Day 2, same pattern: chats vanished after 30 minutes.
On the evening of Day 2, ChatGPT suddenly managed to save around 10 chats I created during the day, so I thought maybe the system was returning to normal.
But on the morning of Day 3, everything disappeared again, including those 10 chats.
Now, as of this moment, every time I start a new conversation, it stays visible for only 10–15 minutes before disappearing.
This happens even if I remain inside the chat actively working.
3. Devices & platforms tested
- Web version
- Desktop app (Windows)
- No VPN, no proxy
- Stable network
- Multiple browsers tested
4. My question
At this point, it feels like only my account is affected by this, since I don’t see anyone else around me experiencing the same problem.
I really need help with:
- Is this a known issue related to account renewal?
- Is my account stuck in some corrupted state on the backend?
- Can someone from the OpenAI team check my conversation storage or restore the history?
- Is there any workaround to prevent new chats from being auto-deleted?
I’ve been trying to stay patient, but after 3 days of losing every chat, I’m honestly exhausted.
