As an indie game developer, I’m excited by the idea of using ChatGPT for NPCs that can actually chat with player. I’ve already implemented ChatGPT in a test Unity project with an integration asset I bought and it works great.
However, this raises some questions: What is the best way for publishing a Steam game that can both profit, and keeps using a resource called “tokens” to work? What if the player’s token usage costs much greater than the game’s price? It looks like selling credits to player as IAP might work to keep the business profitable.
A friend of mine had an idea: What if there was a way for players to use their OpenAI accounts to be able to spend their tokens? And maybe game publishers would get a cut from the token usage?
