Missing conversation history bar/right side prompt navigator bar with odd behavior

This was the best most useful feature and it’s been gone since the last update. Bring it back. I have no idea for the need to keep changing features and site layout. It’s jarring. You get used to a way of operating with GPT and then the next day the whole layout has changed completely.

The same, it disappeared again

nope, the new roll out completely revamped the UI system it seems. from the looks of it, the original prompt history search bar is completely gone now. neither painstakingly scrolling to the top nor create share link work anymore. this new version is seriously something I cannot comprehend. no right click open in new tab, no middle scroll click fast scrolling, and the older threads are nominally “preserved” but rendered invisible and impossible to browse. what is going on here?

exactly. And the project chats are in the main thingy. That defeats the whole point of projects

right now, the issue is rather glaring. the new rollout has removed several features I deem essential to at least browser and Windows Apps end usage; arrow key navigation has been removed for logged in users. middle mouse button autoscroll also removed. right click on link and open in new tab function temporarily removed but restored the next day (yesterday), old conversation navigator (our prompt history side bar) remain out of commission and now rendered completely out of service, and the total list of threads are replaced by a “recent” list, which does not include all, and other users have pointed out that if human memory cannot produce what the tab was about, it is essentially lost for now, though nominally it still exist. I’ve read that some users noted that accessing older threads might run into bugs by the action itself. And just for a personal preference, the color pallet for the new UI is too dim for me. I hate to be that person, but I would really like the old UI back, possibly for Classic UI alternative option. the biggest issue for me currently is the in-thread navigation. with the only option currently being manually roll scrolling up or grabbing the scroll bar manually. The problem being the new UI color system makes the scroll bar visibility extremely low, and in long threads it becomes quite a workout just to find it. so yeah…

It really is a colossal regression in usability…

This hit me yesterday. We really need that right-side prompt navigator back.

This is really so, so frustrating that this prompt navigator bar keeps disappearing from time to time. At first, we had to scroll to the top to access it. That was (frustratingly) fine to an extent, but now after the new roll out its completely gone again. Please, it’s a request to bring that feature back again! We really need it back.

The UI updates are confusing.

The updated Chatgpt client really is missing the timeline entirely it seems. So, I am largely using the classic version.

The scroll-to-top workaround stopped working for me too. I use very long conversations, so I built GPT-Navigator, an independent browser extension that recreates the compact right-side prompt markers, hover previews, and click-to-jump navigation.

It is available on the Chrome Web Store as GPT-Navigator, with the source on GitHub under skullboneslayer-sys/GPT-Navigator. It also includes search and older-message indexing, although indexing still depends on ChatGPT loading those messages, which is basically the work around we were using before by scrolling all the way to the top.

I’m the developer, not affiliated with OpenAI. This is a browser alternative for the missing navigator, not a restoration of the native feature or a fix for the desktop app.

what a champion! you sir are a hero!

for those of you who are using firefox instead of chrome, there is also another one I am using. personally tested. works reasonably well, though if you want to have rapid access you still need to physically reach the top of the conversation. which is doable with the “home” button on the keyboard. a few times, and its reasonably easy.
